Just realized that this is going to be my 50th post! It’s kind of a milestone for me. So, I thought to write a good post on this occasion but wait a minute! Rather than posting some serious ga-ga, the craziness bug bites me and here I am just celebrating this with YouTube!!
Many people in corporate world think that You-tube is not for programmers, developers or who that are involved in software. Since, Software development is serious, but what they miss is techie people also love to enjoy their craftsmanship and off course, they do it in their own style. In fact, some companies go to the extent that they block the YouTube. I know there are some, hiding between us and because of them, their unprofessionalism, everybody had to lose the good value that is coming out of YouTube and other social sites.
I usually surf YouTube for some good stuff like Google Tech Talks as well as Google Developer days as well as Thought works events like this.
Apart from all that stuff, I also enjoy code-monkey variations that are created by so many people out there. Today, also on this celebration here I am presenting the Programmers song, Hope you will enjoy these as you enjoyed reading out my blog.
also enjoy damn crazy variation from Roy from PDC
After this celebration, am going to put future direction of this blog.
1. Changing the direction from to-fro writing to much disciplined and focused writing.
2. Now onwards, you can expect more technical day to day stuff like web development, programming problems, tips and tricks, tools and some insights.
3. More posts about solving the problems of SME/SMB developers.
4. More posts about how to optimize operations function in SMB.
I think this agenda will keep busy for another milestone.
I know that there is a long way to go and this is just a humble beginning…but we have to believe, CHANGE CAN HAPPEN.
So, stay tuned

Code comments are for those who either can not read the code or whose code can not be read.

OMG! I just have unheard that any CEO can care that much about his people, at least in India in SMB segment. It is very rare example that Joel is setting himself .Being a great guy, he knows what best programmers want and how to keep them forever.
I wish many of Indian company CEO’s should read how he had built his office here and here. I am stunned about this man’s business model.Look what he says about his business model..
“That’s our business model. Nice offices, smart programmers, great products, profit.”
What a great business model, straight and simple!
One of the great things about Joel is he knows what people want … look at the way he describes the picture of a construction client and their architects…
“Like many architects who do a lot of commercial work, they were thrilled to finally have a client ask for something other than cheap. These poor architects get out of grad school, imagining all the creative, artistic spaces they will design, and they get their first clients, and they sit down for a meeting, and they start talking about negative space and permeability and modernism, and the clients cut them off and say, “Actually, we want cheap.”
And the architects say, “How about if I design something nice and cheap?”
And the clients say, “No. Not nice. Not nice and cheap. Just cheap.” “
Is it true in software industry too? I really love to find and work with the exceptional business people who have Joel’s attitude as a client. Off course, people will try to meet the ends of the earth for such a client and in true sense this is Win-Win relationship and there emerges the great product in many respects profit, people and market reputation.
There is one quote, I remember, in Craig Larman’s book [Applying UML & patterns] on UML patterns that says “Fast, Cheap, good choose any two.”

I again ran through one of my favourite and all time classic “The Art of Programming” by Donald Knuth. It mesmerises me how beautifully he had written the book. I thought about what kind of great efforts are involved in making such damn good book.
Certainly, programming is an art! We as programmer always do good things. We turn abstract things into reality and serve the society. Look at your mobile phone; look at internet; look at life saving devices that are running inside hospitals, look at any of the airlines reservation system or even railway reservation systems nowadays. We try to help people with our creativity.
One of the facts that we have to agree is not everyone who can programme is great artist. Not everybody can be Michelangelo or Da-Vinci! These great artists pour their heart inside their creations. They took months and years to craft their greatest work.
I would like to follow this great tradition. I might not be a great artist but wish to be and great admirer of Art i.e. programming or rather software development. Great programmers put their heart into their programmes. They treat their programmes with extreme care. They chisel them to finally become excellent masterpieces. Whenever I see a great piece of code or read a book like Donald’s I just fell in love with it. It gives me immense pleasure to look at how beautifully systems are crafted out, how lovely their architecture and design looks.
Some people do just for their livelihood and some live inside their art.
Sadly some people treat us as commodity since there are many cheap imitators available. But they need to just look at one great artist, they can find. You can not feel that intense joy when you watch any photograph of Monalisa or last supper. You need to look at their originals, and then only you can feel the intensity behind its creation, the excellence in brush strokes of masters, the rich use of colours and most precious of all liveliness.
I just want to give a reminder to the people in software business; the great artists are still rare to find! If you had any in your vicinity you should value them at most.

New Rules to be kept by ICC:
(1) Ricky Ponting – (THE TRULY GENUINE CRICKETER OF THE CRICKET ERA AND WHOSE INTEGRITY SHOULD NOT BE DOUBTED) should be considered as the FOURTH UMPIRE. As per the new rules, FOURTH UMPIRE decision is final and will over ride any decisions taken by any other umpires. ON-FIELD umpires can seek the assistance of RICKY PONTING even if he is not on the field. This rule is to be made, so that every team should understand the importance of the FOURTH UMPIRE.
(2) While AUSTRALIAN TEAM is bowling, If the ball flies anywhere close to the AUSTRALIAN FIELDER(WITHIN 5 metre distance), the batsman is to be considered OUT irrelevant of whether the catch was taken cleanly or grassed. Any decision for further clarification should be seeked from the FOURTH UMPIRE. This is made to ensure that the cricket is played with SPORTIVE SPIRIT by all the teams.
(3) While BATTING, AUSTRALIAN players will wait for the ON-FIELD UMPIRE decisions only (even if the catch goes to the FIFTH SLIP as the ball might not have touched the bat). Each AUSTRALIAN batsman has to be out FOUR TIMES (minimum) before he can return to the pavilion. In case of THE CRICKETER WITH INTEGRITY, this can be higher.
(4) UMPIRES should consider a huge bonus if an AUSTRALIAN player scores a century. Any wrong decisions can be ignored as they will be paid huge bonus and will receive the backing of the AUSTRALIAN team and board.
(5) All AUSTRALIAN players are eligible to keep commenting about all players on the field and the OPPONENT TEAM should never comment as they will be spoiling the spirit of the AUSTRALIAN team. Any comments made in any other language are to be considered as RACISM only.
(6) MATCH REFREE decisions will be taken purely on the AUSTRALIAN TEAM advice only. Player views from the other teams decisions will not be considered for hearing. MATCH REFREES are to be given huge bonus if this rule is implemented.
(7) NO VISITING TEAM should plan to win in AUSTRALIA. This is to ensure that the sportive spirit of CRICKET is maintained.
(8) THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE: If any bowler gets RICKY PONTING – “THE UNDISPUTED CRICKETER WITH INTEGTIRY IN THE GAME OF CRICKET” more than twice in a series, he will be banned for the REST OF THE SERIES. This is to ensure that the best batsman/Captain will be played to break records and create history in the game of CRICKET.
These rules will clarify better to the all the teams VISITING AUSTRALIA.
May No Team Visit Australia hence forth.

I received this poem from one of my friend a few days back….Whatever your cross,
whatever your pain,
there will always be sunshine,
after the rain ….
Perhaps you may stumble,
perhaps even fall,
But God’s always ready,
To answer your call …
He knows every heartache,
sees every tear,
A word from His lips,
can calm every fear …
Your sorrows may linger,
throughout the night,
But suddenly vanish,
in dawn’s early light …
The Savior is waiting,
somewhere above,
To give you His grace,
and send you His love…
Whatever your cross,
whatever your pain,
“God always sends rainbows ….
after the rain … “
